1 Always choose a cable needle
that’s the same circumference
as your knitting needles (for
example 4mm) or one size
smaller. This will ensure your
cables are nice and neat, and
eradicates a significant amount
of bagginess between stitches.2 Swatching is very important
when it comes to cables
because the fabric they create
puckers across the width more
than stocking stitch. Most cable
patterns will include a separate
tension for the cable section so
you can compare your results.3 Worried that your stitches will
slip off your cable needle while
you work around it? Try
swapping your metal cable
needle for a bamboo one. The
matt texture of the bamboo
helps to grip your stitches more
securely as you work.STEP-BY-STEP M1 MAKE 1 INCREASE
1 Insert the point of the right-hand
needle under the loop or line of yarn
that lies between the two stitches.
2 Next slip the yarn back on to the
left-hand needle, ready for knitting.3 Insert the point of the right-hand
needle into the back of the stitch as
if to knit.4 Pull the yarn all the way through
and you will now have an extra
stitch on your right-hand needle.13520 15 10 579111315246810121416
