Skein Queen...
I’m a passionate
knitter and I’ve
owned Skein
Queen sincebased in a small studio in Berkshire and we
are passionate about dyeing beautiful yarns.
Our colour inspiration comes from the world
around us and our imagination and we love
creating new colourways as well as dyeing
our range of repeatable colourways for yarn
stores and customers. You can find our yarns
on our website and in several small local yarn
shops (LYS) around the world.
What can knitters find at your
(online) shop?
We stock a wide range of high-quality bases
including silk and cashmere yarns and blends
in weights from lace weight to chunky. We
are particularly proud of our range of 100%
British yarns which are custom spun for us
in Devon and we have added aran weight to
the collection for the first time in 2020. We
usually have one shop update a month but
we also offer a pre-order service for our 68
repeatable colours so customers can order
the quantity they require when they need it.
What will be the Skein Queen
highlights for 2021?
I am looking forward to hopefully attending
more shows this year. We had been due to go
to several shows which were unfortunately
postponed so I am hoping to get out and meet
more people in 2021, when it is safe to do so!
Behind the scenes I’m planning a revamp of
the website to update it and make it easier to
navigate; especially on a phone. I am always
on the look-out for new yarn bases to try.

fter the success of their
Christmas Crafternoon, Mind
is planning a creative 2021 with
lots of community crafting. Whether
in person or virtually, anyone can get
involved to help support this brilliant
charity and continue to provide vital
services during these times.
WHAT IS CRAFTERNOON?
Crafternoon is a chance to bring your
favourite people together online – no
matter where they are – and share some
precious time making beautiful projects,
decorations and presents. While also
taking a moment to focus on your own
mental wellbeing. Absolutely anyone
can take part, regardless of whether you
have crafted before, and it’s so easy to
join in, using any supplies to hand!
Mind is encouraging supporters to take
part in their own Crafteroon, but if you
do need any help, then the Mind fund-
raising team will be on hand to support.
So, get together with your favourite
people for a creative afternoon folding,
stitching and sticking to raise money
for mental health charity Mind, and help
make sure that no one has to face a
mental health problem alone.
WHERE SHOULD I HOST MY
CRAFTERNOON EVENT?
Whether you host your Crafternoon
online, or at home in-line with local
guidance and Government rules, Mind
will provide all the tips and practical
support you need. A recent survey by
Mind found that more than half of adults
and over two thirds of young people said
that their mental health had got worse
during lockdown. Money raised from
every Crafternoon will help fund support
services in England
and Wales for those
experiencing a mental

popular for use in worsted yarns during the
medieval years. Its fleece is of a very fine quality,
with a soft handle and a rich creamy colour. You can
easily spot this hardy sheep thanks to its trademark
spiral horns and black face and legs. It is a favourite
choice with hand spinners and used in many
blends of yarn, and is a brilliant choice for knitting
