2 balls of Yarn A (blue) FC15 Mix
1 ball of Yarn B (grey) FC21 Mix
2 balls of Yarn C (pink) FC6 Mix
1 ball of Yarn D (purple) 123 Mix
1 ball of Yarn E (cream) 1A
Q A pair of 3mm needles
Q A pair of 3.25mm needles
Q 5 buttons
Q Cushion pad, 30x30cm (12x12in)
TENSION
28 sts and 32 rows to measure
10x10cm (4x4in) over pattern
using 3.25mm needles
FAIR ISLE CUSHION
Note Each time you work the colourwork charts, the first row
should continue in st st (knit sts on RS rows and purl sts on WS
rows), so the first time you work Row 26 of Chart B as a WS row
(purling sts and reading Chart from left to right). The second time
you work Row 1 of Chart A it is a WS row, then Row 26 of Chart B is a
RS row.
Cast on 90 sts using 3mm needles and Yarn A.
BUTTON BAND
Row 1 (RS) *K2, P2; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 2 (WS) P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end.
These 2 rows form rib.
Work in rib a further 12 rows, ending with a WS row.
MAIN BODY
Change to 3.25mm needles.
Join in yarns as needed and strand yarn not in use loosely behind
work.
Starting with a knit (RS) row and continuing in st st for charts
throughout (for RS rows, read from right to left and knit all sts; for
WS rows read from left to right and purl all sts), work as follows:
Rows 1 to 25 Working the first and last st as given in the Chart and
working the 8-st repeat 11 times across, work Chart A once.
Rows 26 to 35 Cont in st st as set and working the 18-st repeat 5
times across, work Chart B once.
Rows 36 to 210 Cont in st st as set and repeat Rows 1 to 35 (Chart
A and Chart B) another 5 times, making sure to work RS and WS
correctly (see Pattern Notes).
Break all yarns except Yarn A and change to 3mm needles.
BUTTONHOLE BAND
Work with Yarn A throughout.
Row 1 (RS) *K2, P2; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 2 (WS) P2, *K2, P2; rep from * to end.
These 2 rows form rib.
Rows 3 to 6 Work in rib as set.
Row 7 Rib 10 sts, *k3tog, (yo) twice, rib 14 sts; rep from * 3 more
times, k3tog, (yo) twice, rib 9 sts.
Row 8 Rep Row 2.
Rows 9 to 14 Work in rib as set.
Cast off.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends. Block, following any yarn care instructions on the
ball band. Pin and join side seams. Sew on buttons to correspond
with buttonholes.
