soundto be refreshinglyneutral.In
fact, I wouldcharacterizethe LCD-1
as highlyrevealing,even unforgiving,
whichis just what recordingengineers
and many audiophileswant in a
headphone.Also, transientswere never
smeared,and the soundstagewas nice
and wide. The latter observationis
probablydue in no small part to the
open-backdesign,whichalso offers
less isolationfrom environmental
sounds. But in my quiet room,I was
surprisedat the senseof isolationI
felt when I put on the LCD-1.
I have only a coupleof minor
quibbles.The LCD-1is very lightweight,
whichis great, but that comesat the
expenseof feelinga bit flimsy.On
the sound-qualityfront, I was never
impressedwith the dynamicrange.It
wasn’tbad, just not quite as wide as
I’ve heardfrom other headphones.
With a list price of £399,the Audeze
LCD-1is far less expensivethan most
planar-magneticheadphones.Along
with its generallyoutstandingsound
quality,that makesit a no-brainerin
my book.ScottWilkinson
