Professional tripod
DREW was wary that the height of the
camera would be critical in this shot,
as shooting too low wouldn’t reveal the
stepping stones. His Benro Mach 3
TMA48CXL 9x tripod has a maximum
height of over two meters! This high
angle gave the stepping stones much
more definition in the frame.

UNDERSTAND
POLARIZED LIGHT
POLARIZING filters are fantastic
for landscape photos for boosting
blue skies and contrast, as well as
reducing reflections in rivers. For
the best results use a standard
focal length like 35mm or 50mm
as you’ll get patchy affects when
using them with ultra wide angle
lenses, and shoot at right-angles
to the sun and scenes.

Drew picks three of his favourite
Welsh castles
CASTELL COCH
NESTLED on the slopes of
deciduous woodland just outside
of Cardiff, this fairy-tale castle
looks like it’s been pulled straight
out of a Disney film!
CAREW CASTLE
ANOTHER local favourite of mine,
visiting after dark reveals another
aspect with castle photography
by including the stars if you get
lucky with a calm, windless night.

PEMBROKE CASTLE
MY HOME town and birthplace
of Henry VII, Pembroke is a great
castle to explore. Visit on a calm
day and you’ll be greeted with
mirror like reflections in the moat.
