Improving action shots
The angle of the bright sun near the beach here has cast lots
of shadows across this motorcrosser as he powers into a turn,
which means the colourful bike, detail in the rider’s clothes,
and his eyes are all lacking impact.
JPEG adjustments
Working with a JPEG this time, we open
it in the Photoshop workspace, and pull
up the Shadows/Highlights mode. The
trick is to make subtle adjustments.
With this in mind, for Shadows we set
Amount to 35%, Tone 50%, Radius
30%, but set Highlights Amount to
10%, Tone 50%, Radius 30%.
By gently tweaking the tones of this
action shot, it’s revealed the rider’s
expression in his eyes and more detail
in his clothing and bike
