The Canon Magazine 41
In-camera mode: Highlight Tone Priority
HTP (aka Highlight Tone Priority) is a mode available on all
Canon DSLRs and helps to improve highlights in your images.
Depending on which Canon camera you have, HTP is
accessed via the Menu or Custom Functions, and aims
to make the gradation smoother between the greys and
highlights. When HTP is selected a D+ will appear on your
LCD, and you’ll also notice ISO will be set to ISO200.
Digital grad filter 2
Our second digital grad filter brighten the foreground coastal
rocks and blurry waves. This time we up the Exposure, and
increase the Temperature to make it warmer. Then we changed
the colour of the filter to yellow – to make the landscape warmer.
By using two digital grad filters here
we’ve been able to brighten the
foreground sea, rocks and waves,
and also darken the sunset sky
