Dear QA,
Th e last issue (December 2020/January 2021) gets a prized place in
the top drawer of my craft table! I would call it ‘Back to the Basics’ ...
Painting Tyvek (Crites), photo transfers (Koolish), hand stitching
(Booth), creating your own fabric (Turner), and paint (Lohbeck).
Th en, an added bonus on silk thread (Schillig) encouraged me to open
that spool I bought some time ago.
As always, I love Quilting Arts and am expectantly waiting for the
next issue as soon as I fi nish reading the current one.

Dear Editors,
I would love to see an Artist Profi le done on Shin-hee Chin. Th is
woman does amazing and stunning work. I have taken a class from her
and came away in awe. She is very modest and humble. You may have
to do some persuading as she tends to shy away from praise.
I noticed her work in the December 2020/January 2021 issue as a
fi nalist in the Pieces of the Past competition. In typical humility, her artist
statements always speak volumes to the depth of her inspiration.
Looking forward to seeing her in a future publication. I love your
magazine!
Sincerely,
Velda Becker

Dear Quilting Arts,
I love the quilted piece you selected for this award, Pieces of the
Past! It makes a statement; so diff erent from many quilts. Rare and
beautiful, the colors are exquisite and typical for the subject.
I would say this artist nailed it! Glad this won!

Th ank you for your note, Sharon. We agree—“Still Standing in
Clearwater Idaho” by Karen Sienk, the First Place winner of the
Pieces of the Past competition, was a worthy choice! A gallery
of winners, fi nalists, and honorable mention recipients was in the
December 2020/January 2021 issue and a gallery of more fi nalists is
on page 20.
