Exploring the Tree

by Cindy Watkins, aka, Th e Tree Lady

ots of people ask me, “Why on Earth are you stitching 5,000 trees?” I quietly think to
myself, “It’s because I am—maybe—completely crazy” ... but the answer to this question is
a little longer, and actually about following your passion and doing what you love.

The journey into textile art and the joys of art quilts
began in my mother’s lounge room while browsing though
one of her quilting magazines. It featured a painted and
stitched quilt. I had already tried all the perfect points and
straight lines stuff, which I admired but just could not get

excited about. So, when I found out there where other
ways you could create quilts, I was really interested. In
fact, so interested I ended up with a quilt shop and gallery
that I ran for over 10 years!
