TIP:I lightly spray with starch at
this point.
- Trim the piece to the
desired size. Add sashing
or pieced patchwork, if
desired. - Layer the quilt top, batting,
and backing. Baste, using
your preferred method.
NOTE:I strongly recommend
wool batting for this technique.
Its puffi ness gives the motif
extra loft and after additional
quilting in the background—
wool compacts well with ample
stitching on top—creates the
faux trapunto look.
- Outline the thread-painted
motif and background with
dense quilting.
NOTE:You can quilt a few
design lines in the motif if
needed, but do not quilt
densely or over the thread-
painted lines or the loftiness of
the faux trapunto will be lost.
- Bind, as desired.
