connectivity, autonomous vehicles, smart

energy, Industry 4.0, remote health care—

these are some of the hottest technology

more than 7,300 patents worldwide and $4 billion

investment in research and development over the

past fi ve years.

“We focus on generating data that provide vital

insights about physical phenomena and action-

able intelligence about the world around us,” says

Vincent Roche, President and CEO at ADI. “As

the world continues to digitalize, our technologies

are becoming even more important in areas such

as 5G, autonomous vehicles, smart machines,

and digital health.”

ADI reported revenue of $6.2 billion in fi s-

cal year 2018, up 21% on a GAAP basis. The

company exited fi scal 2018 having generated

strong free cash fl ow, placing ADI in the top tier of

the S&P 500 in free cash fl ow margin, and ADI’s

stock price has been hovering near a record high

in recent months, Roche says.

Over the past year, ADI has made progress in

integrating the operations of Linear Technology,

a maker of high-performance analog integrated

circuits that it acquired in 2017.

At the heart of the company’s culture of inno-

vation is fostering an environment where employ-

ees are encouraged to follow their instincts and

take smart risks. “We hire great people and give

them the freedom to express their creativity and

make a positive impact on the world,” Roche says.

ADI also focuses on staying ahead of promis-

ing trends, such as artifi cial intelligence (AI), by,

for example, injecting inference algorithms to

improve the performance of its products. In addi-

tion, AI is being deployed in the company’s own

operations for customer management, demand

forecasting, and preventative maintenance in

production equipment.

A big part of what has made the company

successful over many decades is its ability to

adapt to changing technologies and shifting

market needs. This is especially true given the

introduction of more powerful digital and algorith-

mic capabilities and the ongoing advancement

of technologies such as artifi cial intelligence and

machine learning. Says Roche: “Those that learn

and adapt fastest will be the ones to thrive over

the coming decades.” ●
