Bradford White seeking new employees

Barry County’s largest
employer is looking for a few
good people to fill job open-
ings at its Middleville plant.
Bradford White
Corporation has announced
it is looking to fill positions

at its Lafayette Street facility

to meet increasing global

demand for water heaters

and related products.

“As our industry evolves,

we’re looking for team mem-

bers to help Bradford White

Water Heaters continue to

manufacture and deliver the

highest quality water heating

products,” Ryan Clegg,

director of human resources

for Bradford White, said in a

press release. “We’ve always

offered premier employment

opportunities here in the

Grand Rapids area, and

we’re maintaining that com-

mitment as we respond to the

challenges and opportunities

of 2021 and beyond.”

Bradford White employs

more than 1,000 workers at

its 1-million-square-foot

plant. Clegg said the compa-

ny is offering a wide range of

positions.

Stanton, a pair of Fighting

Scot seniors, will be wres-

tling to earn state medals for

the second season in a row. It

will be the third trip to the

state finals for Norman, who

also earned a medal as a

freshman in 2018.

Norman, the 145-pound

runner-up Saturday, piled up

points in consecutive victo-

ries over Lansing Everett’s

Chaka Glenn and Grand

Ledge’s Devin Pfau in the

first two rounds of the

regional. He scored a 16-

win over Glenn before the

whistle sounded on the end

of the first period and then

earned a 14-4 win over Pfau

in the semifinals.

Norman suffered his first

defeat of the season in the

145-pound championship

match, falling 9-5 to

Brighton’s Zach Johnson

who is 25-1 overall this sea-

son.

Stanton took third at 215

pounds after falling 8-0 to

Howell’s Ethan Green in the

semifinals of their weight

class. Stanton pinned Portage

Northern’s Kyle McMaster

in the blood round [consola-

tion semifinals] and then

pinned Grand Ledge’s Clint

Tollison in their match for

third place.

Stanton now sports a

record of 26-4 on the season.

TK gets five through

to D2 Individual Finals

A group of five Trojans

punched their tickets to the

Division 2 Individual State

Finals at the Michigan High

School Athletic Association

Individual Wrestling

Regional hosted by Byron

Center High School Saturday.

Thornapple Kellogg man-

aged to get five state qualifi-

ers out of the eight guys that

wrestled at regionals, and

they were set to compete

with the state’s best at Van

Andel Arena in Grand Rapids

Friday (April 2). The group

of Trojans getting through

the regional included 125-

pound regional champion

Zach Gibson as well as

Carter West who was third at

285 pounds; Ashton Corson

who was third at 119 pounds;

Kyron Zoet who was third at

130; and Andrew Middleton

who was fourth at 140

pounds.

“Overall we did pretty

good today,” Thornapple

Kellogg head coach Dayne

Fletke said. “We got five out

to the state tournament so

we’re happy with that. We

came ready to wrestle today

and we will keep working

through the net week and

continue to train like we

have been, and to get the kids

mentally prepared for the

state tournament. We want to

get everyone there healthy

and safe.”

Coaches vote on coaching

awards at the MHSAA

Regional tournament, and

Fletke was voted by his peers

as Regional Coach of the

Year. Fletke stated, “I’m very

surprised and happy to get

that. It comes with a lot of

work form other coaches and

parents that support the pro-

gram. It’s kind of a welcome

surprise.”

The opening round of the

day was tough but the

Trojans managed to have

four guys score opening

round wins. Gibson had a fall

at 1:03 mark to advance at

the 125-pound weight. Zoet

advanced at the 130-pound

weight with a 6-3 decision.

Middleton had a 15-0 techni-

cal fall at 140 pounds, and

West had a pin at the heavy-

weight bracket.

In the second round of

semi-finals and consolation

brackets, the Trojans got

wins from Gibson, who

picked up his second pin of

the day over Eran Marx of

East Grand Rapids to secure

his spot in the finals, and

Jackson Curtis and Dylan

Bailey, who advanced to the

blood round, both scoring

major decisions for their

wins.

Trojan wrestlers had three

other wrestlers secure their

spot at the state tournament

in the blood round with Zoet

getting a 14-4 major decision

over Caleb Huyser from

Allegan; West had a 14-

major decision over Clayton

Kammeraad of Holland; and

Ashton Corson had a 10-

major decision over Easton

Mendoza of Holland.

Hastings’ Robby Slaughter

earned his first trip to the

state finals with a fourth-

place finish at 152 pounds.

He had to go through a

Trojan to secure his state

finals spot, beating TK’s

Austin Chivis 11-9 in an

overtime session in the blood

round [the consolation semi-

finals]. This was a bit of déjà

vu for the two wrestlers with

a different outcome, as last

year Chivis eliminated

Slaughter in the blood round

at districts.

In the finals for TK,

Gibson was the only regional

champion after his win over

Landon Miller from Lowell

with his third pin of the day.

In a year where nothing

looks the same, the state

tournament is one of them.

Wrestlers in Division 2 were

set to wrestle in the State

Finals at Van Andel Arena

starting Friday morning. In

normal years, the tournament

runs over two, and before

that three days. This year

each division’s tournament

will take place in one day,

with all four divisions com-

peting at different times and

locations. The Division 3

tournament was set for

Friday at Wings Event Center

in Kalamazoo, with the

Division 1 wrestlers compet-

ing in Kalamazoo today

(April 3). The Division 4

tournament will be held

today at Van Andel Arena.
