Frame 07-08

(Joyce) #1
As the proverb goes, all work and
no play makes Jack a dull boy. So
why do many hotels still adhere to
business-like, pragmatic lobbies?
The public space is a visitor’s first
entry and impression of a stay, so
all the more reason to make the area
enticing. Incorporating unexpected
colours and textures in the lobby
and allocating cosy areas for
socialization and relaxation are just
two prime ways to help guests find
the right balance between work and
play during their hotel stay. – LGM

LAID-BACK LOBBY

Atom and Phlox are two new interior textiles developed by Kvadrat
and Raf Simons. Atom is an experimental boucle fabric inspired by
pointillist landscapes, while Phlox is Simons’ vibrant interpretation
of classic corduroy fabric.

Madrid-based Teresa Sapey Studio
designed Marseille’s Hotel Nhow to
reflect the Mediterranean vibrancy
of the French city. Inside, a whimsical
graphic tunnel embodies the lobby
and creates cove-like nooks for hotel
guests to lounge in.
