- Select the Type tool ( ), and position the pointer over the top edge of the white circle. The
Type cursor ( ) changes to a Type cursor with a circle ( ). This indicates that if you click
(don’t click), text will be placed inside the circle, creating a type object in the shape of a circle.
Instead of adding text to the inside of a shape, you want to add text to the path, which is what
you’ll do next.
- While pressing the Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows) key, position the pointer over the top of
the white circle (use the figure as a guide). The insertion point with an intersecting wavy path (
) appears. Click and placeholder text appears.

Instead of pressing the Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows) key to allow the Type tool to
type on a path, you can select the Type On A Path tool (-“fl by holding down the Type
tool in the Tools panel.
