When Paste Remembers Layers is selected, artwork is pasted into the layer(s) from which it
was copied, regardless of which layer is active in the Layers panel. If the option is not selected,
all objects are pasted into the active layer, and the layers from the original file are not pasted
in.
Note
If the target document has a layer of the same name, Illustrator combines the pasted
content into a layer of the same name, with Paste Remembers Layers enabled.
- Choose Edit > Paste to paste the content into the center of the Document window.
