2.1 Structural Isomers

Identify structural isomers:
Structural isomers are the least similar of all isomers. In fact, the only thing that structural isomers
(also called constitutional isomers) share is their molecular formula, meaning that their molecular
weights must be the same. Aside from this similarity, structural isomers are widely varied, with
different chemical and physical properties. For example, five different structural isomers of C 6 H 14
are shown in Figure 2.2. Each of these molecules looks completely different but has the same
number of carbon and hydrogen atoms.
