won the 400-meter relay in
47.44. Andrew Adams,
David Carey, Brendon
Standhardt and Mason
Osterhouse won the 1600-
meter relay for Caledonia in
3:54.89. The Scot team of
Donavan Mattson, Cooper
Sorsen, Josh Oom and Jamin
Thompson took the 3200-meter relay in 9:17.00.
Mattson and Thompson
went 1-2 in the 1600-meter
run for the Scots and Sorsen
and Oom went 1-2 in the3200-meter run.
Both Caledonia teams
placed second at their annual
Soderman Relays last

The Caledonia boys
couldn’t quite carry the
momentum from one big win
through the full 48 minutes
with a tough Forest Hills
Central team at Scotland
Yard Wednesday evening.
The Caledonia varsity
lacrosse team scored its fifth
victory of the season Tuesday
in toppling Forest Hills
Northern 12-11 in a game
that stretched into double
overtime. The Fighting Scots
were right with the Rangers
through the first half
Wednesday, but Forest Hills
Central exploded in the sec-
ond half to take a 17-4 win.
The two big issues for the
Fighting Scots Wednesday
were turnovers as they
attempted to work the ball
out of their defensive third
and the inability to slow
down Forest Hills Central
junior attacker John
Tomsheck. Tomsheck scored
seven goals and assisted on
another to lead his team to
the win.
Tomsheck didn’t get his
first goal until the 10:
mark of the second quarter,
putting his team in front 5-
at the time. He sprinted out
from behind the Caledonia
net and threw a backhanded
shot into the Caledonia net.
He’d score four more in sim-
ilar fashion, beating the
defense to the goalmouth
from behind the net.
The Scots had a 1-0 lead aminute and a half into the
match, getting a goal from
senior Jobe Anderson thanks
to a nice assist from senior
teammate Griffin Poll.
The lead lasted five min-
utes until the Rangers Collin
Ward found the net and then
teammate Brady Nolan soon
after. Luke Matelic got in
deep on the Caledonia
defense and secured a pass
from teammate Magnus
Salmon and slammed a shot
down into the goal for a 3-
Ranger lead.The Scots got a quick
answer from senior attacker
Nick Lockhart to get his
team back within a goal with
2:41 to go in the opening
quarter. He whipped an
underhanded shot that scoot-
ed through the Ranger keep-
er.
Anderson tied the score
with his second goal with
1:02 to go before the end of
the period. Mason Klotz
worked the ball out of the
Scots’ defensive end and the
ball eventually found seniorCaleb Sprague behind the
Ranger net. Anderson got
through the defense to the
goalmouth and got a pass
from Sprague then found an
opening in the upper right 90
to tie the game at 3-3.
The Rangers came out
strong to start the secondperiod., getting two goals int
eh first 90 seconds. Tomsheck
assisted on the first one 52
seconds into the period, after
a takeaway by teammate
Rowan Clay. Tomsheck
found Collin Ward who
scored the goal to put their
team in front. Tomsheck’sfirst goal gave his team a
two-score lead moments
later.
Caledonia put together
one of its best transitions of
the night a minute and a half
later, leading to what would
unfortunately be its team’s
final goal. Poll got the ball
up to senior Dylan Hall who
advanced it to Anderson,
working the ball out of their
end through the air, and
Anderson fired a shot past
the Ranger keeper to make it
5-4 in favor of the Rangers.
The two teams battled
through scoreless action for
the final nine minutes of the
first half.
Clay Rowan worked
through the Caledonia
defense for an unassisted
goal 80 seconds into the sec-
ond half and the goals just
kept coming for the Rangers.
Rowan finished with four
goals on the night. Ward and
Matelic had two each.
Salmon finished the evening
with three assists.
The Caledonia boys were
scheduled to host Zeeland
West last night (April 23).
They will be back in action
Tuesday at Forest Hills
Eastern and then visit West
Ottawa Friday, April 30. The
loss Thursday moved the
Scots’ record to 5-2 overall

Red Conference set with Falcons
The Caledonia varsity
baseball team swept its three-
game OK Red Conference
set with East Kentwood this
week, capping off the series
with a 10-0 win over the
Falcons in Kentwood
Thursday evening.
The Scots knocked eight
hits include a single and a
double by clean-up hitter
Keaton Hernden. Hernden
scored two runs and drove in
two. The other six Caledonia
hits were all singles, includ-
ing two each for Luke
Mandsager and Ryan Brown
and one each by Austin
Deller and Clayton Senti.
Senti and Brown had two
RBI each. Senti scored twice
as did teammate Nikolas
Clark who walked once and
had an RBI. Deller and James
DeMorrow each scored a run
for the Scots and Michael
Geelhoed scored twice.
Canyen Veldhouse earnedthe shut out on the mound for
the Scots. He struck out six
and allowed four hits while
not walking a batter through
six innings.
The Scots scored 10-5 and
11-1 wins in the doublehead-
er that opened the series in
Caledonia Tuesday.
Caledonia was outhit 7-
by the Falcons in game one,
but took advantage of three
Falcon errors and 11 walks.
Aidan Grinstead walked
three times, singled and
scored a run in the 10-5 win.
Clark doubled and scored
a run, and the Scots also got
singles from Caden Dixon
and Zachary Elsbrie.
Mandsager and Owen
Graham had the Scots’ only
RBIs in the game one win.
Brown, Dixon and Deller
each scored two runs.
Bender started on the
mound and got the win,
allowing four runs (oneearned) on four hits and five
walks through four innings.
He struck out four.
The Scots got the 11-1 win
to close the doubleheader in
six innings. A little power
showed up at the plate as
Clark tripled and Geelhoed
and Grinstead each doubled.
The Scots had 14 hits in all.
Hernden and Mandsager
both singled three times.
Grinstead and Elsbrie had
two hits each. Grinstead
drove in three runs, Deller
had two RBI, and Clark,
Senti, Hernden, Mandsager,
James DeMorrow and Elsbrie
had one RBI each.
Brown started and got the
win, going 3.1 innings. He
was charged with one
unearned run. He struck out
one, walked tow and gave up
two hits. Geelhoed threw 2.
