1272 The Holy Gospel Of Jesus Christ, According to St. Matthew
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?
and not one of them shall fall on the ground with-
out your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all num-
bered.
31 Fear not therefore: better are you than
many sparrows.
32 Every one therefore that shall confess me
before men, I will also confess him before my
Father who is in heaven.
33 But he that shall deny me before men, I
will also deny him before my Father who is in
heaven.
34 Do not think that I came to send peace
upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the
sword.
35 For I came to set a man at variance against
his father, and the daughter against her mother,
and the daughter in law against her mother in
law.
36 And as a man’s enemies shall be they of
his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than
me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son
or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.
38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and
followeth me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and
he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it.
40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and
he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of
a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet:
and he that receiveth a just man in the name
of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just
man.
42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of
these little ones a cup of cold water only in the
name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall
not lose his reward.
Chapter 11
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made
an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he
passed from thence, to teach and preach in their
cities.
2 Now when John had heard in prison the
works of Christ: sending two of his disciples he
said to him:
3 Art thou he that art to come, or look we for
another?
4 And Jesus making answer said to them: Go
and relate to John what you have heard and seen.
5 The blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are
cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he that shall not be scandal-
ized in me.
7 And when they went their way, Jesus be-
gan to say to the multitudes concerning John:
What went you out into the desert to see? a
reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went you out to see? a man
clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are
clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of
kings.
9 But what went you out to see? a prophet?
yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he of whom it is written: Be-
hold I send my angel before thy face, who shall
prepare thy way before thee.
11 Amen I say to you, there hath not risen
among them that are born of women a greater
than John the Baptist: yet he that is the lesser
in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until
now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence,
and the violent bear it away.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied
until John:
