TKHS celebrates seniors

in their final week

Thornapple Kellogg High

School students this week

participated in some special

theme days to honor the

seniors’ last week in school.

The senior class had a half

day Friday, their last day.

The themes for the special

week were: Hawaiian Day,

Farmer Day, College Day,

Comfy Day and TK Spirit

Day.

Farmer Day is a favorite

day for students – especially

those who get to drive a trac-

tor to school. The tractors are

parked in the last row of the

north parking lot nearest the

road so motorists can see

them as they drive by.

This is a tradition the high

school has continued for

many years to recognize the

agricultural roots in the com-

munity.

Middleville Rotary Club students of the month at Thornapple Kellogg high School.

Three TK seniors named

Rotary students of the month

Three Thornapple

Kellogg High School seniors

• Brennan Lutz, Mitchell
  Middleton and Sam Morton


• were honored as the
  Middleville Rotary Club
  Students of the Month for
  March.
  Brennan is the son of Ted
  and Tara Lutz. He has been a
  member of the cross country
  and track and field teams
  where he has earned multiple
  medals. He has received the
  student of the month honors,
  earned varsity letters in track
  and cross country, and earned
  a 4.0-plus grade point
  average.
  He is a member of
  National Honor Society and
  has taken part in many
  community service projects.
  His hobbies include
  weightlifting, running,
  woodworking, drafting and
  hiking.
  He plans to attend Calvin
  University to pursue a degree

in biomedical engineering.

Mitchell is the son of

Sarah and Bob Middleton.

His accomplishments in high

school include being a

National Honor Society

member and being named to

the honor roll. He also earned

several football honors,

including first team All-State

team, first team All-Area

kickers and punters, first

team All-Region specialist,

Grand Rapids Dream Team,

Grand Rapids All-Region

player, and for setting a new

school record, a 52-yard field

goal.

Mitchell enjoys playing

rugby, doing community

service and fishing.

He plans to continue

playing football at Ferris

State University while

majoring in mechanical

engineering.

Sam is the son of Robert

and Sue Morton. He is a

member of the National

Honor Society and was

recently named to the top 10.

He has been part of the

TKHS band receiving awards

at CMU’s jazz festival in

2020 and 2021.

He also is member of the

tennis team and ski club and

took part in the 2021 musical.

He received honors in tennis

including the sportsmanship,

doubles chemistry and

coaches’ awards. He also is

active at Gun Lake

Community Church where

he is a drummer, video switch

operator and youth group

leader.

Sam enjoys space, math,

writing jazz music, and

playing the trumpet, drums

and piano.

He will be moving to

Northfield, Minn., to attend

St. Olaf College to study

jazz, music composition, and

math.

Village Players seeking new members

Like many other
businesses and nonprofit
organizations, the Village
Players of Middleville are
struggling.
Each year, the group
hopes to make enough money
to pay for its next production,
store set pieces and contribute
to local causes. Due to the
pandemic, however, the
Players have not been able to
perform for two years and
find themselves in need,
especially for like-minded
theater lovers to help.
Middleville has had a
community theater group

since 1991. The Village

Players have provided

entertainment, opportunities

to perform, and always

believed in giving back to the

community. The group has

donated to a scholarship for

Thornapple Kellogg High

School seniors, the TK

school foundation, the

library, Meals on Wheels,

Thornapple Township

Emergency Services, Relay

for Life, Lincoln Meadows

Retirement Community,

Thornapple Arts Council,

Odyssey of the Mind, and the

Friends of the Veterans

Memorial. In addition,

members have volunteered

with the TK summer reading

program and Middleville

Heritage Days, and supplied

Buddy Benches for local

elementary schools.

The Players must make

some decisions. Anyone

interested in serving in a

leadership position or

volunteering in any role is
