- Loss of health and markets – As people learn about the negative impacts of
unnatural produce they prefer not to buy or eat these products. - Land damage – Regular use of chemicals causes soil to die and farming
becomes dependant on expensive chemicals. - Promotes unsustainable monoculture.
- Other crops can be contaminated with GMO genes, bacteria, or
viruses. - The development of herbicide resistant super weeds, insecticidal
resistant super pests, and mutated plant viruses. - Controlled farming – GMO companies can make farmers sign contracts
controlling their options. - Over time yields are less stable and less productive.
The facilitator can hand out the IDEP GMO Fact Sheets to the participants to either
discuss on site or take home to study.
