Diet means roughly 20 percent of your daily food intake. Why? A diet that’s low
in protein can lead to weight gain by disturbing hormone production. On the
other hand, a diet that is too high in protein can cause gout. It’s all about balance.
The weightloss benefits of lowcarb diets have been observed for over 150
years. But they really took off in the last 20 years. The Atkins and Protein Power
diets have helped millions lose weight, but come on! You must be from a
carnivorous tribe or another planet if you think eating protein all day long is a
healthy thing to do. These highprotein and very lowcarb diets will ultimately
take a toll on your health.
Sure, you’ll lose weight on extreme protein diets because you’ll eliminate
sugar and bad carbs and balance your insulin. But what about the downsides?
First, you may experience constipation and acidic breath if you use protein and
fat as your main source of energy. Hmm. That’s not sexy. Okay, so now you’re
probably thinking, “Who cares about constipation or bad breath? I’ll take a
laxative and brush my teeth more often. I just want to be thin.” Well, you could
do that, but highprotein diets can eventually make you suffer from kidney stones,
gout, and osteoporosis.
As I also mentioned earlier, highprotein/lowcarb diets are bad for your
thyroid, since excess protein prevents the conversion of thyroid hormone to its
active form. A sluggish thyroid means dry skin, hair loss, depression, and,
eventually, a slow metabolism.
Unlike the Perfect 10 Diet that can make you look younger by boosting HGH
levels, highprotein/lowcarb diets can make you age faster by depressing HGH
levels. You see, these types of diets are also way too high in fat, and this simply
shuts down your growth hormone or HGH production, the fountain of youth
hormone. Eating excessive amounts of fat (50 or 60 percent of your caloric
intake) is an enemy to HGH secretion. In turn, you’ll develop early wrinkles,
bags under the eyes, a double chin, sagging skin, and a sluggish metabolism.
Additionally, these diets are too low in fiber, which can lead to a higher estrogen
level in women. An imbalance in the estrogen-progesterone ratio can lead to
many problems, such as headaches and irregular periods.
So what do you think of these diets now? Do you still want to follow a
highprotein/lowcarb diet ? You see, it’s not only about getting thin and having
immediate results. You need to preserve your health first before you can become
a perfect 10 on the inside and the outside.
How Much Protein Can I Eat?
I recommend that protein should be about 20 percent of your total daily food
