Peanut Oil
Peanut oil is a monounsaturated fat. Peanuts of lesser quality that are not used to
make peanut butter are used to make peanut oil. It can be allergenic to some
people, and solvents are used in its extraction process. It contains an excess of
omega-6 fatty acids, which have been linked to disease development.
(Remember, a disturbance in the omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is behind many of
our modern-day illnesses.) It is best to avoid peanut oil or use it sparingly on the
Perfect 10 Diet.
- Polyunsaturated Oils (Essential When Natural)
Polyunsaturated oils are missing several hydrogen atoms. These oils are essential
to our health since our bodies cannot manufacture them. Polyunsaturated oils are
needed for hormone production and to regulate bodily activities. There are two
types of polyunsaturated oils: omega-3 fatty acids, which are present in fish,
eggs, and flaxseed oil, and omega-6 fatty acids, which are present in seeds and
their oils.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Eggs, nuts, and cold-water fish, such as salmon and mackerel, contain the
healthy polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to have a
positive effect on cholesterol and prevent inflammation, a hallmark for
atherosclerosis. For this reason, adding fish to your diet will help prevent heart
disease.
Quick tip: Supplementing your diet with omega-3 fatty acids pills can curb
your appetite and can make you feel full hours after a meal, since it helps control
insulin and leptin. Omega-3 fatty acids also support your sex hormones and play
a role in cancer prevention, male fertility, bone health, and mood disorders,
including depression.
Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory benefits and may reduce the
symptoms of Crohn’s disease. These fatty acids are also found in eggs, nuts, and
flaxseed oil, which comes in dark bottles to prevent oxidation and must be
refrigerated. It can be used on salads and cooked food, but it should never be
heated or used for cooking. Have a teaspoon of flaxseed oil 2 to 3 times a week.
Omega-6 Fatty Acids
You’ve heard me saying over and over again that too many omega-6 fatty acids
