impairs response to hypoglycemia. That’s why people feel the need to binge
the day after heavy drinking.
In men, alcohol lowers testosterone, the male sex hormone. It is toxic to
the testicles and leads to decreased secretions of testosterone. It also
increases the conversion of testosterone to estrogen, the female sex
hormone. An imbalance of testosterone to estrogen ratio in men is a serious
disturbance that will be addressed later on in this book.
In women, alcohol affects how estrogen is secreted. After one drink,
estrogen levels can go as high as 300 percent within 30 minutes. And this
surge in estrogen may be the factor responsible for the increased risk of
breast cancer in women who are heavy drinkers. Alcohol also increases the
secretion of the stress hormone cortisol, which can lead to a loss in muscle
mass. Alcohol is also bad for growth hormone, the hormone that keeps you
young and fit. How many hormones have been screwed up so far on this so-
called perfect Mediterranean diet? I’m not sure. Unfortunately, I lost count.
That’s not the only problem I have with the Mediterranean diet. I don’t
know about you, but I can’t eat one country’s cuisine every day for the rest
of my life. I don’t live in Greece or Italy. I live in the United States. The last
time I visited those countries, I noticed that they had restaurants from all
over the world, just like we do. We live in a global economy, and
international restaurants are available even in the remotest reaches of the
world. With this in mind, who can really follow just one country’s cuisine?
It’s not only impractical, it’s impossible unless you happen to live in a
primitive tribe still undiscovered by civilization. For this reason, I
developed the Perfect 10 Diet to be a diet that the whole world can follow.
The Perfect 10 Diet does not limit your food choices to one country or one
type of cuisine; the Perfect 10 Diet is international.
Do you like Belgian, Chinese, French, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Thai, or
Vietnamese cuisine? Hey, it’s all here on the Perfect 10 Diet. The
Mediterranean diet is here, too—with some slight variations. The Perfect 10
Diet is world class all the way. You can follow any cuisine in the world you
like on the Perfect 10 Diet as long the types of fat are natural. And that’s the
Perfect 10 Diet’s superiority over all diets, including the one and only
Mediterranean diet.
