and had to proceed for my youth service, the compulsory one year
National Youths Service (NYSC).


At the initial stage, it was rough and to crown it all, towards the end
of my Service year, my fiancée got pregnant with our first born. We
had earlier been warned spiritually that we should not do any silly
thing as abortion. As a matter of fact our relationship dated back to
our secondary school days in very late seventies, and we both
agreed that sometimes in the future, we were going to be husband
and wife. All glory to God, today, we are happily married.

Because of our resolve and commitments, we agreed to keep the
baby and had to get an apartment outside the Transmitting station
in Ikorodu from our little savings, coupled with the fact that there
had also been a promise that Lagos Broadcasting Corporation was
going to retain me at the end of my Youth service, we had to stay
close to the station, with every hope that the employment will
come to fruition.

We got a two-room apartment, a self contain. We were able to
furnish it with some properties I had been able to acquire while I
was in school and a settee I was able to acquire during my youth
service. For instance, my big mattress was purchased during my
off-campus days at school for N50. This mattress is still very much
available with us till date (a sign of those days' Quality Assurance).
A friend of mine, who was my roommate off campus, did not go
with his set of beddings after school. Incidentally, his uncle with
whom he was staying with then, gave us the N100 with which I
