C. Wetland Forest Communities
Wetland forests are plant communities which occur in poorly drained depressions on inorganic
soils throughout the New York City area.
FLOODPLAIN FOREST
This hardwood forest community occurs on mineral soils in low–lying areas near river
floodplains. These areas are flooded regularly in the spring and intermittently on more upland
areas. Small stream floodplain forests will be less disturbed than river floodplain forests where
river currents flowing through these areas can scour the landscape.
Examples Include: Bronx River Corridor (BX), Willowbrook (SI).
