1 Garberville
The first stop on a Lost
Coast romp is scrappy
little Garberville, the
first town beyond the so-
called ‘Redwood Curtain.’
There’s an uneasy
relationship between the
old-guard loggers and
hippies, many of whom
came in the 1970s to
grow marijuana after the
feds chased them out of
Santa Cruz. A visit to the
three-block downtown
should include browsing
at Brown’s Sporting
Goods (%707-923-2533; 797
