Un recorrido imaginario desde el norte hasta el sur de la Región
Andina, nos hace encontrar con un mosaico de sembríos de
trigales, papas y praderas propios de la provincia del Carchi.Allí está Tulcán, ciudad de gran actividad comercial y con un gran
atractivo: las 8 hectáreas de esculturas en ciprés que han sido
realizadas en el cementerio de la ciudad por casi cien años. Cerca
de Tulcán, capital de la provincia, podemos encontrar los Páramos
del Volcán Chiles, la Reserva El Ángel con frailejones (plantas típicas
del páramo), la Laguna de Voladeros y el imponente santuario de
la Gruta de la Paz.Otros atractivos turísticos que pueden ser visitados son: el valle El
Chical, las aguas hediondas, las lagunas verdes, el bosque de los
Arrayanes, la cascada de Paluz, la cascada del Chiltazón, el bosque
El Colorado, la gruta de Rumichaca, la Reserva Guanderas y Las
Canoas.Esta hermosa provincia también ofrece variedad de deportes
extremos como andinismo, trekking, automovilismo 4 x 4,
motocross y bicicross, ciclismo de ruta y de montaña, pesca
deportiva, camping, rafting y canotaje. Por último, si el turista
prefiere o está más interesado en conocer los atractivos históricos
y culturales tiene varias posibilidades como ir a visitar la Catedral
de Tulcán, la Casa de la Cultura, el Santuario de la Virgen de la
Purificación, también podría recorrer el centro histórico de San
Gabriel, el Monumento al Procerato del Trabajo, el Museo del
Mastodonte, la Iglesia de El Ángel, la Piedra de Athal y deleitarse
con las artesanías de San Isidro y Mira.Y los turistas no pueden irse de esta provincia sin probar sus
delicias gastronómicas como los platillos preparados con papas,
habas, choclos, carne de cerdo, de cuy y de gallina. Aparte de estos
platos, se destaca el conocido “hornado pastuso”, plato compuesto
