for kids and adults. It’s
possibly the world’s finest
collection, both in terms of
its historic breadth – which
spans 35 centuries – and
its sculptural pieces. Also
stop by Vitrix Hot Glass
Studio (www.vitrixhotglass.
com; 77 W Market St; h9am-
8pm Mon-Fri, from 10am Sat,
noon-5pm Sun) to take a
gander at museum-quality
glass pieces ranging
from functional bowls to
organic-shaped sculptures.
Housed in the former
City Hall, a Romanesque
Revival building c 1893,
the Rockwell Museum of
Western Art (%607-937-
5386; http://www.rockwellmuseum.
org; 111 Cedar St; adult/child

8pm summer; c) has the
largest collection of art
of the American West
including great works by
Albert Bierstadt, Charles
M Russell and Frederic
Remington. Native
American arts and crafts
are also well represented
and there’s a room
designed and decorated
like a great western lodge.
