NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
The Middleville Village Council will hold a public hearing during the regular Village
Council Meeting on June 22, 2021 at 7:00 pm to receive public comment on a proposed
change to the Village of Middleville Ordinance in the Council Chambers, Village Hall,
100 E. Main Street, Middleville, MI 49333, and via electronic means using ZOOM
online video conferencing.
THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO ARTICLE VII OF CHAPTER 66 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES REGARDING THE USE OF ORV IN THE VILLAGE
WILL BE THE SUBJECT OF THIS HEARING.
Members of the public wishing to participate in the public hearing must do so electronically

NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE AND
SUMMARY OF THE REGULATORY EFFECTS THEREOF

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Village Council of the Village of
Middleville (the “Village”) has adopted Village Ordinance No. 2116 (the “Ordinance”).
The principal provisions of the Ordinance are summarized as follows:
Section 1 of Ordinance No. 2116 amends Section 66-123 of the Village Code of
Ordinances (the “Code”) to provide that no vehicles shall be parked on any street in the
Village between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from November 1 through March


  1. Vehicles may be parked on the streets in the Village any time from April 1 through
    October 31 subject to the other restrictions in Chapter 66 of the Code.
    Section 2 of the Ordinance amends Section 66-126 of the Code to enumerate seven (7)
    new circumstances under which the Village Manager, Street Administrator and/or Barry
    County Sheriff’s Department or their designees may remove or direct the removal of a
    vehicle from the Village Streets and impound said vehicle at the cost of the owner.
    Section 3 of the Ordinance provides for severability of a provision of the Ordinance
    in the event that a provision is held to be invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction.
    Section 4 of the ordinance provides for the publication and effective date of the
    Ordinance. Village Ordinance No. 2116 will become effective upon its publication or
    upon the publication of a summary of its provisions in a local newspaper of general
    circulation in the Village.
    A copy of the foregoing Ordinance, Ordinance No. 2116, may be examined or
    purchased at the Village offices, 100 East Main Street, within the Village, during Village
    office hours.

Department of Public Works (DPW) Equipment Operator


The Village of Middleville is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of
DPW Equipment Operator. Specific areas of duty include maintaining water and
wastewater systems, maintaining streets, sidewalks, parks, equipment, refuse, and
other areas as assigned.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Minimum qualifications include
a CDL or ability to obtain the license within ninety days of hire, one to two years
experience in a maintenance environment, knowledge of common construction
practices, a strong mechanical aptitude, and a clean driving record. The position
requires residence within a thirty-minute recall time. This position pays $19.73-
$20.23 per hour, dependent on qualifications. The selected candidate must pass a
pre-employment physical, including a drug screen. The position will be open until
filled.

PLANNING COMMISSION


The Planning Commission members attend monthly meetings, review meeting packets
from the Village Planner prior to each meeting, consider and act on zoning ordinance
text amendments, special land uses, site plans, and requests to change property zoning.
The Commission operates under the Michigan Planning and Zoning Enabling Acts.
Members of the Planning Commission must become familiar with these laws, and annual
attendance at a training seminar is required and paid for by the Village.

The Thornapple Kellogg
varsity softball team came
out on each end of a walk-off
in the final two ballgames of
the regular season.
The Trojans won their
final home game 11-10 over
Zeeland East in extra-innings
May 26. TK visited Hopkins
Tuesday for a district tune-up
and saw the Vikings score
four times in the bottom of
the seventh inning to take a
7-6 walk-off win.
TK made five errors lead-
ing to five unearned Hopkins


runs in the ballgame.
Hopkins tied the ballgame
on a hit batter, a TK error and
back-to-back singles in the
bottom of the seventh. TK
got two outs, including one
on a tag play at the plate,
before Hopkins managed to
score the winning run from
third on a single into center
field.
Maleah Bailey led the TK
offense out of the lead-off
spot, going 2-for-4 with a
double and a run scored. Mo
Sprague singled twice and

knocked in a run. TK also got
hits from Eliana O’Riley,
Natalie O’Riley, Grace Zube
and an RBI double from
Emily Offringa. Ellie Rogers
had an RBI for TK too.
The TK ladies are hosting
their Division 2 District
Tournament today. Lakewood
and Ionia meet in a 10 a.m.
district semifinal and the
Trojans will take on the
Hastings Saxons in the sec-
ond semifinal of the day. The
district championship game
is scheduled for 2 p.m.

ASSESSMENT ROLL


TAKE NOTICE that the Gun Lake Improvement Board will hold a public hearing on the
practicability of a three-year improvement project (2022 through 2024) for Gun Lake
consisting of nuisance aquatic plant control, inspection and oversight, water quality mon-
itoring, watershed management, administration, and contingencies. The hearing will be
held at Gun Lake Chapel, 2910 Patterson Ave., Wayland, MI 49348 on Saturday, June
19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a special assessment roll has been prepared
and is on file at the office of the Barry County Drain Commissioner located in 220 W.
State Street in Hastings, Michigan for public examination during normal business hours.
Said special assessment roll has been prepared for the purpose of assessing the cost of
the improvement project to benefiting properties.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Gun Lake Improvement Board will hold a hearing
immediately following the aforementioned hearing of practicability for the purpose of
reviewing said special assessment roll and for hearing any objections thereto. An owner
of or party with interest in real property to be assessed or his/her agent may appear in
person to object to the special assessment or may protest such special assessment by
letter filed with the Lake Board at or prior to the time of the hearing. Written objections
may be filed with or mailed to the Gun Lake Improvement Board c/o Barry County Drain
Commissioner, 220 W. State Street, Hastings, MI 49058. Notice is also given that the
owner of any real property within the Gun Lake Special Assessment District who, having
made an objection to said special assessment either in person or in writing, may, within
thirty (30) days after the confirmation of the special assessment roll, appeal such special
assessment to the Michigan Tax Tribunal or other court of competent jurisdiction.
