The Meaning of Children’s Rights

Handout 1 - Module 1 Topic 4

Definitions of children and children’s rights:

 A childis defined as a human, male or female, aged 18

or under.

 A rightis what any person, child or adult, is entitled to

legally and morally.

 The rights of allchildren are enshrined in law and must

not be violated. When there is violation of the rights

of children, legal action can and should be taken.

 Nobody, not even parents, can violate the rights of a child.
