Airport Classification
Certain dimensional and performance of critical aircraft determine the airport's reference
code, a coding system used in classifying the airports. It is based upon the approach
category and airplane design group. The aircraft approach category ( Table 5-2) is
determined by the aircraft approach speed.

Note: Kn stands for knot, a unit of speed equal to one nautical mile per hour.
The airplane design group (ADG), ( Table 5-3), is a grouping of aircraft based upon
wingspan or tail height:
