So many people have lent their time, intellect, talents, and
skills to helping me pull this book together that I can’t
possibly thank them all. But I can certainly try.
First and foremost, thank you to all of the researchers
around the globe who are doing the science, proving that
our choices matter when it comes to our cognitive
performance and long-term brain health. I especially want to
thank the countless experts who’ve gotten on the phone
with me, welcomed me into their labs, Skyped with me, and
answered my questions over e-mail. In particular: Robert
Krikorian, Miia Kivipelto, Agnes Flöel, Suzanne de la
Monte, Alessio Fasano, Lisa Mosconi, Mary Newport,
Melissa Schilling, Nina Teicholz, James DiNicolantonio, and
Felice Jacka. Also thank you to the institutions who have
welcomed me: NYU Langone Medical Center, Harvard
University, Brown University, Weill Cornell
Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian and the Alzheimer’s
Prevention Clinic, the Karolinska Institutet, and Charité
Hospital.
A major thank-you to Richard Isaacson, my mentor,
colleague, and friend. I have learned much about science
from you. I’m grateful whenever I get to collaborate in your
research and look forward to future endeavors together.
(That includes spin class.)
