The three tablecloths, each 4 ft. by
4 ft., will cover a table 5 ft. 1 in. by 5
ft. 1 in. if laid in the manner here
shown. ABeD is the table top, and
1, 2, and 3 are the three square cloths.
Portions of 2 and 3, of course, fall
over the edge of the table.


Each side of the field is 440 yards;
BAE is a right-angled triangle, AE
being 330 yards and BE 550 yards.
Now, if Brown could run 550 yards
while Adams ran 360 (330 + 30),
then Brown can run the remaining
110 yards while Adams runs 72 yards.
But 30 + 72 = 102 yards leaves
Adams just 8 yards behind. Brown
won by 8 yards.
