Having a new friend was exciting, but I was distraught and sad no
one else could see him. Muncho made me laugh and laughing alone
sometimes made me look a bit weird. One time, at school, Muncho
made me laugh so much that I was sent to the head teacher to
discuss my ‘inappropriate behaviour’. My parents were half frustrated,
half concerned: wholly frusterned.
“Carrots DO NOT talk!” said Father again, when we got home.
After the visit to the head teacher’s office, I had to be more
careful. I spoke to Muncho in hushed tones and made sure nobody
could hear me. I have learned over the years that people usually
respond very badly if I tell them I have an invisible carrot on my
shoulder. Muncho doesn’t mind. He says we are a team.
