“It felt like we were in a completely different world. Coming here
made us realise that there is so much out there that we are yet to
discover if we dare to say yes to adventure and no to misadventure.
Thank you Josh, for showing us such an incredible place,” Ollie said,
poetically.
“Yeah, it’s good,” said Kit, not very poetically.
“Yeah, nice,” agreed Ben, equally unpoetically.
Ollie told me he missed me and he wished he could stay longer in
Korea. Muncho wanted him to stay longer too. Legumasaurus Rex
almost cried at the airport.
“Are you crying?”
“No...” he cried.
“It’s okay if you cry, Rex. We all are going to miss Ollie and that’s
ok. You do not have to pretend that you don’t care.”
I was sad to see them go, but I knew that we were still BFFs, and
in Ollie’s case BWFs. Our apartment was quiet when we got back, the
stillness making me reminisce on the fun we’d had. As much as I loved
Korea, I was a little homesick and part of me wanted to be done with
second year quickly so I could go back to London to see Ollie. The
following weeks were intense. It involved a lot of assignments, studying
and preparing for tests. I had my plate full, so I was not all that sad
and lonely, or hungry. Ollie and I continued to have our weekly Skype
calls, and we updated each other about what was going on in our
lives. One day when I was feeling particularly homesick he sent me
something which made me smile and cry at the same time. Ollie had
made a video of all our friends dancing to ‘Human’ by the Killers,
holding a sign with the words “I miss you Josh.” I wept in gratitude for
what an amazing friend he was. The video arrived at just the right time.
Just when Muncho and I were incurably sad, the video cured our
sadness. It was also the first video to feature many of the attractive
faces which would become household names on Youtube channel a
few years later: Johnny, Lizzie, Jenny, Shandy and composer Andy.
