totally appreciated her for her skills and artistry and I could tell she liked
that. I’m betting she also liked my top hat. Legumasaurus Rex yelled
at me to blow her kisses and Muncho demanded I give her a puppy
immediately, but I ignored them.
“Did you make all of this?” I asked, gesturing to the massive array
of food and using exactly the correct amount of eye contact. Not so
little that I seemed too aloof, but not so much that I seemed intense
and creepy. I completely nailed it!
“I made these,” she said, showing me a variety of delicious looking
dishes that all looked delicious.
“Wowzers trousers,” I said.
The exact moment I met Gabie for the first time, mixing 20 packets of
Fire Noodles.
After that we got chatting and it was all very natural and true love-
y. It was like the first shoot of a tomato plant breaking through the
compost in a seedling tray: full of promise. We carried on chatting until
she said she had to get back to work, but she gave me her number
and I saved it in my phone as ‘incredible fantastic brilliant Gabie’.
Later, I texted her. It took me about half an hour to find her number as
it was not under ‘G’ and I could have sworn I’d put ‘amazing’ in there.
