A localidade de Água Preta, no^ 5º o Distrito de São João da Barra/RJ, vem se desenvolvendo nos últimos anos graças à
proximidade com o Complexo Portuário do Açu. Possui Agência de Correios, a Escola Municipal Francisco Alves Toledo
e o comércio mais ativo da região.
Água Preta fica na extremidade meridional da restinga de Paraíba do Sul e deve seu nome ao rio Água Preta, que, no
passado, ligava o rio Paraíba do Sul ao rio Iguaçu. O rio Água Preta, também conhecido como Doce foi aproveitado pelo
Departamento Nacional de Obras e Saneamento para a abertura do canal do Quitingute, que cortou a ligação do Paraíba
do Sul com o Iguaçu e inverteu o curso da água em direção ao canal da Flecha.
Água Preta village, located in the 5th District of São João da Barra/RJ, has been developing in recent years due to its proximity to the
Açu Port Complex. It has a Post Office, Francisco Alves Toledo Municipal School and the most active trade in the region.
The village is located in the southern end of Paraíba do Sul restinga and was named after Água Preta River, which in the past connec-
ted Paraíba do Sul River to Iguaçu River. Água Preta River, also known as Doce, was used by the National Department of public Works
and Sanitation for the opening of the Quitingute channel, interrupting the connection between Paraíba do Sul and Iguaçu Rivers and
reversed the water flow towards Flecha Channel.
