struggles for independence, Africa faced as great a
challenge again to alleviate the consequences of
civil wars, to prevent new conflicts from breaking
out, to end those still in progress, to feed the
people and to match the growth of population
with development best suited to Africa’s needs.
That is the hope – even as corruption, wars and
famines still deface the continent.
