Step 2:
Building groups: matching pictures
to captions – worksheet 1

Students are given cards with pictures or
captions. Each picture has three
corresponding captions. The students with the
picture go around asking questions until they
find the corresponding captions. In the end
the groups are built.

15 - 30

This building groups strategy can be substituted
by any other. Since the classes are usually of 28
students, working with groups of four is ideal.

Step 3:
Going deeper into the subject –
gather info about the problems:
Biology classes + Internet (e.g.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/

The students are given time to accomplish the
task A1 on worksheet 2 by doing some
research. They can also ask the Biology
teacher for help.
By accomplishing the task, the students
gather info that will help them write their
awareness-raising narrative.

30 - 60

In this phase, it is very important to have a
double lesson: English and Biology.

Step 4:
What can we do the help solve the
plastic problem?

Preparing the narrative

The students write the outline of their story +
think about the way they are going to present
their story to their younger colleagues. They
make a list of the materials needed and
distribute the tasks to accomplish amongst the
group’s members

60 - 100

Both the Biology and English teacher go around
to answer the questions the students might
have.

Step 5 :
Writing the narrative

The students write out their narrative and add
the pictures and / or drawings. They have also
made a script of the presentation to their
younger colleagues

100 - 150

These are 11th graders who have already had
lessons on how to write a narrative and a script.

EXTRA

The students will have the possibility to have
some hints from the drama and or drawing
sessions.

These sessions are open to those who are
interested in expanding their skills every
Wednesday afternoon.
