Electrophoresisplusantibodyreaction:Westernblotting.Thismethodin-
volveselectrophoresisofproteinsinagel,coupledwithdetectionbyspecific
antibodies.Theseparatedproteinsaretransferredtonitrocellulose,where
theyareidentifiedwiththehelpofspecificantibodies(Fig.2. 24 ).Polyclonal
seraisnormallyusedforthispurposeasmonoclonalantibodiesonlyrarely
bindtodenaturatedandseparatedproteins.


AgglutinationReaction


Antibodiescanagglutinateantigen-loadedparticles(Fig.2. 25 ),whilstanti-
genscanagglutinateantibody-loadedparticles.Application:agglutination
ofbacteriaorerythrocytes(e.g.,bloodgrouptests).
