Awisefemalehalflingofforty-five,QellineAlderleafis

theStonehillInn.

Carp’sStory.Qelline’sson,Carp,isaspiritedand

precocioushalflingladoftenyears.Heisenchantedbythe

ideaofbeinganadventurerandsaysthathewasplaying

inthewoodsnearTresendarManorwhenhefounda

secrettunnelinathicket.Acoupleof“biguglybandits”

cameoutofthetunnelwhenhewasthere,andmetwith

apairofRedbrands.Theydidn’tseehim,butitwasclose.

Carpthinksthatthebanditshaveasecretlairunderthe

oldmanorhouse.Hecantakethecharacterstothetunnel

orprovidethemwithdirectionstothelocation.Thetunnel

Phandalin’sonlytempleisasmallshrinemadeofstones

takenfromthenearbyruins.ItisdedicatedtoTymora,

goddessofluckandgoodfortune.

SisterGaraele,azealousyoungelfwhodespairsofever

riddingPhandalinoftheRedbrands.SisterGaraele

isamemberoftheHarpers,ascatterednetworkof

adventurersandspieswhoadvocateequalityand

covertlyopposetheabuseofpower.TheHarpersgather

informationthroughoutthelandtothwarttyrantsand

anyleader,government,orgroupthatgrowstoostrong.

aroundPhandalin.

Thetownmaster’shallhassturdystonewalls,apitched

woodenroof,andabelltowerattheback.Postedonaboard

nexttothefrontdoorisanoticewritteninCommon.Itreads:

“REWARD—OresnearWyvernTor!Thoseofamindtoface

theoremenaceshouldinquirewithin.”Thenoticebearsthe

town’ssealandanindecipherablesignature.

Phandalinhasnofunctioninggovernment,butthe

townsfolkelectsomeonetoserveastownmastereach

year.Thetownmasterservesasajudgeinminordisputes

andkeepsanyrecordsthatneedtobekept.Thecurrent
