Thefirststepinasprintisthesprintplanning.Thedurationofthiseventdependsonthelengthof
thesprint-fora 4 weeksprintthedurationofthemeetingis 8 hours(usually 5 %ofthesprintlength).
Theaimis to put together theScrum team'sworkpackage for theupcoming sprint.Here the
followingruleapplies,whenthetimeforthemeetingisover,thesprintstarts.

Procedure: Time-boxed( 8 hours)

Participants: ProductOwner,
ScrumMasterand
developmentteam

DividedintotwofurtherTimeBoxes( 50 / 50 )

TimeBox 1
( 4 hours)-"TheWHAT":Theproductownerpresentstheproductpropertiesrecordedintheproduct
backlogtotheteamintheprioritizedorder.
Together,bothsidesdevelopacommonunderstandingoftheworktobedoneinthesprintand
determinewhich part ofthe product backlog the implementation team can transform into an
"Incrementofpotentiallyshippablefunctionality"intheupcomingsprint.Thescrumteamformulates
asprintgoalfromtheselectedproductbacklogentries.Theprioritizationoftheorderisdonebythe
productowner.

TimeBox 2
( 4 hours)–„TheHOW”:Inasecondstep,thedevelopmentteamplanshowitcanimplementits
givenforecastinthesprint(withouttheinvolvementoftheproductowner).Therequirementsare
brokendownintoindividualtasksandsummarizedinthesprintbacklog.
