Maintaining your focus

How to stay trained on the task at hand in iOS 15

implemented many more cool features to
help us stay on track with our tasks, and these
features are collectively called Focus.
To start with, our notifications are clearer,
with larger app icons to help you track which
apps need attention. Also, contact photos
accompany messages and other forms of
communication. Apple has just introduced
Notification Summary, a handy round-up of
your notifications that you can schedule to
arrive. This summary is created using advanced
AI that monitors how you interact with apps,

and stacks the summary accordingly. It won’t
include personal messages but will strip the
less important stuff out of your Notification
Centre, and deliver it in one handy digest. Set
up this schedule by going to the Notifications
settings, and tap ‘Scheduled Summary’.
Focus also exists as a standalone section in
your iOS 15 Settings app, and here you will
be able to set up four categories of Focus:
Personal, Work, Sleep and Do Not Disturb.
Each essentially acts as a sheet of settings to
determine which people from your Contacts

can contact you, which apps can send you
notifications during the periods of execution
and even which Home Screens you can access.
For example, when setting up the ‘Work’
Focus, you can choose to only be notified by
co-workers, or apps such as Mail, Calendar
and Slack. Each Focus can be scheduled to
kick in at set times or you can enable them
manually through your Control Centre. You can
also create a custom Focus. It’s a good way of
blocking out distractions to only focus on what
you need to.

Instant access
You can schedule your Focus
periods to kick in at set times,
or you can enable them
instantly through your iOS 1 5
Control Centre (the ‘Focus’
control replaces the standard
‘Do Not Disturb’ option).

Setting up
You can set up your Focus
groups in Settings>Focus and
choose who can contact you,
and which apps can notify you
during these scheduled phases.
It’s a good way to switch off
from work for the night.

Your Focus groups
As well as using the more
general Do NotDisturb feature
to block everything, you can
create custom notification
sheets based on what you’re
doing. By default these include
Personal, Work and Sleep.

Adding more
Although four main Focus
categories are created by
default, you can also create
your own custom Focus for
anything, whether it’s family
time, you time orsometimes,
erm... Hammertime!
