4 Acupuncture Points of the Twelve Primary Channels

Location

At the midpoint of the palmar border of the 1st metacarpal bone.

How to find

With the thumb relaxed, palpate the ‘belly’ of the thenar emi-

nence from palmar to lateral (radial), then palpate the first

metacarpal bone. LU-10is located at the midpoint of its palmar

‘border’.

➞L.I.-4is located on the dorsal aspect of the hand, close to the

2nd metacarpal bone.

Needling

Vertically 0.5–1 cun. Caution: Painful!

Actions/Indications

● Regulates the Lung Qi

● Cools Blood Heat

● Expels pathogenic factors from the throat

● Descends rebellious Qi

● Harmonises the Stomach and Heart

Special features

Ying-spring point, Fire point, important distal point for sore

throat caused by Wind-Heat.
