Research and general acceptance
Low sodium diets are generally accepted as part of
many programs that are aimed at lowering the serious
risks posed by certain diseases, such as kidney and
heart disease. Most health professionals agree that a
low sodium diet is not only necessary for patients
suffering from these diseases, but would also be
healthy and beneficial for most Americans. There is a
great deal of scientific research that supports a direct
link between salt intake and blood pressure.
