T

he drawings that accompany Appendix A are
included in the drawing packet that accompanies
this textbook. These drawings are used in the exam-
ple problems throughout the textbook and selected review
questions.

OUTLINE SPECIFICATIONS

Section 1—Excavation

Excavation shall be carried 2 feet beyond all walls.

Excavations shall be carried to depths shown on the

drawings.

All excess earth not needed for fill shall be removed

from the premises.

Section 2—Concrete

Concrete shall develop a compressive strength of

2,500 pounds per square inch (psi) in 28 days.

Reinforcing steel shall be A-15 Intermediate Grade.

Reinforcing mesh shall be 6 6 10/10 welded wire

mesh.

All concrete shall receive a machine-troweled finish.

Vapor barrier shall be 6-mil polyethylene.

Expansion joint filler shall be 1/2-inch 4-inch asphalt-

impregnated fiberboard.

Prestressed hollow core.

Section 3—Masonry

Concrete masonry units shall be 16 inches in length and

8 inches wide.

Masonry wall reinforcement shall be truss design and

installed every third course.

Brick shall be standard size, red.

All mortar joints are 3/8 inch thick.

Section 4—Door Frames, Doors, Windows

Door frames shall be 16-gauge steel.

Doors shall be flush, solid core, seven-ply construction

with a rotary birch veneer.

Prefinish interior doors with plastic laminate lacquer

and exterior doors with polyurethane varnish.

Hardware for doors (except overhead)—allow $250 for

the purchase of the hardware.

Hardware to be installed under this contract.

Section 5—Roofing

Roofing shall be three-ply, built-up roof, 20-year

bond.

Cant strips shall be asphalt-impregnated fiberboard.

Insulation shall be fiberglass.

Gravel stop shall be 0.032-inch aluminum.

Section 6—Finishes

All exposed concrete shall receive one coat of concrete

paint.

All exposed surfaces of gypsum board and plaster wall

shall receive two coats of latex paint.

Floors—1/8 inch thick, 12 12 inches, vinyl, marbleized

design, light colors.

Base—1/8 inch thick, 4 inches high, vinyl.
