Building on the dimensions of growth described in Chapter 4, Chap-
ter 5 describes a range of instructional approaches and strategies. The
intent is for teachers to develop a repertoire of instructional designs to
teach the Habits of Mind with increasing complexity and sophistication.

level.
The purpose of Part I, therefore, is to orient you to the Habits of
Mind—their power and their value—and to provide insights into curricu-
lum and instruction intended to enhance their development.
