pins of the module’s edge-connector to the socket’s connectors. If there are any problems,
this is the time to spot them.
Place the module into the socket slot and press down with gentle but firm pressure
untilthemoduleseatsintotheslot.Themoduleisproperlyseatedwhenonlyalittleofthe
edge connectors are showing at the top of the socket.

Installation Problems


If your PC fails to boot after you’ve installed a cache module, you were warned. How-
ever, any new problem that arises immediately after installing a cache module is more
than likely caused by the installation of the wrong type of cache module in the PC, if all
else is fine.
Here are some other things to check out:

 Make sure the cache module is correctly installed.
 Touch the cache module with your finger after the PC has been powered on for
a few minutes. If it is too hot to touch, you may have a bad cache module or it
may be a motherboard problem associated with the cache module’s socket.
 Disable the cache options in the BIOS. If after the cache is disabled, the problem
goes away, the problem is not with the cache module. Oh boy, right?
 Check all drive and power supply connectors to see if you accidentally
unseated or dislodged one when installing the cache.
 If you still cannot locate the problem, take the PC to a certified technician like
you should have in the beginning.

Enabling the Internal Cache


The PC’s internal cache is enabled or disabled through the BIOS’ setu p program. Other
than during troubleshooting what could be a cache-related problem, there is no reason to
disable your internal cache. However, if you must, enter the BIOS setu parea using the
key indicated during the boot process. Check your BIOS’ advanced settings to make sure
the internal cache is enabled and functioning. If for any reason the internal cache is
disabled and you cannot enable it, there is a problem with hardware configuration. Be
aware that if you disable the internal cache, the performance of the PC will degrade.

Enabling the External Cache


If your PC has L2 cache installed, it should be enabled. Like the internal cache, external
cache is enabled through the BIOS settings. If you cannot enable the external cache, there
is a conflict in the configuration or specification of the motherboard, chipset, processor,
and possibly the external cache itself.
