EMERGENCIES

■ Seidel test= fluorescein strip applied to wound. A positive test shows leak-
ing aqueous humor due to corneal perforation. This is not necessary to do
if iris tissue or other intraocular content is obviously prolapsed from the eye.
■ Rupture globe is a cannot miss diognosis which may have a subtle presen-
tation. In patients with eyelid lacerations, be sure to look under the lid at
the top surface of the globe.

TREATMENT
■ Avoid pressure on the eye (can expel contents).
■ No IOP checks
■ Make sure patient is NPO!
■ Shield eye.
■ Antibiotics
■ Pain meds
■ CT scan to check for foreign bodies; no MRI as patient may retain metal
foreign body
■ Emergent ophthalmology consult for immediate operative repair
