DC Network Theorems Unit 9 – Thevenin/Norton Conversion
Exercise 2 – Norton to Thevenin Conversion
EXERCISE OBJECTIVE
When you have completed this exercise, you will be able to convert a current source to a voltage
source. You will verify your results by comparing calculated and measured data.
DISCUSSION
- Norton current sources can be converted to Thevenin voltage sources.
- The Norton equivalent resistance becomes the internal resistance of the constant current
source. - Convert this current source to a voltage source by applying Ohm’s law.
- The constant voltage (VTH) provided by the source is IN * RN and its series internal resistance
(RTH) is equal to RN.
